No worries! The criminal did not get away with the extortion. David Letterman informed the Manhattan district attorney’s office about the situation and they were able to catch the perpetrator using a phony $2 million dollar check.

David Letterman referred to the entire situation as bizarre and stated he felt menaced and disturbed by it. The person who was arrested is reported to be an employee from “48 Hours” and has been suspended from work.

According to David Letterman, one morning he entered his car and found a package waiting for him with a letter stating “I know that you do some terrible, terrible things and that I can prove you do some terrible things.” Proof was provided with the package.

David Letterman has stated he that he had to testify in front of a grand jury and has said “I was worried for myself, I was worried for my family. I felt menaced by this, and I had to tell them all of the creepy things that I had done… I have had sex with women who work for me on this show.”

He hopes that through all of this, he may still be able to keep his job but CBS appears to be standing by him at this time.

This isn’t the first issue Letterman has had with extortion. In 2005, a former painter on his Montana rank plotted to kidnap his nanny and son for a $5 million ransom.
